Iraq: Basrah Grand Water Project - Phase 2

Products:K9 Grade Ductile Iron Pipe, T-Type/K-Type Flexible Joint

Quantity: 3600 tons

Project location: Located in Basrah province in southern Iraq, the project's core facilities are concentrated in the Al-Abbasia area (where the water treatment plant is located) and the water supply network that runs throughout Basrah city.

Date: 2016.03

I. Project Background: A Leap from "Salty Water" to "Clear Springs"

*Project Name: Basrah Grand Water Project - Phase 2

*Funding Support: Official Development Assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

*Core Mission: Construction of a reverse osmosis (RO) water treatment plant with a daily processing capacity of 199,000 cubic meters and a water distribution pipeline covering the entire city.

*Extreme Challenges:

1. Severe Geological Corrosion: The Basrah region has a high water table and extremely severe salinization, making ordinary pipe materials highly susceptible to acid and alkali corrosion.

2. Uneven Soil Settlement: The soil in the lower Euphrates alluvial plain is soft, requiring pipe materials with excellent ductility and seismic resistance.

3. Water Pressure Fluctuations: The water supply system experiences tremendous pressure during pressurization, necessitating a "zero-pipe-burst" guarantee for the pipeline network.

II. Shandong Runhai Steel's "Ace" Supply Solution

Addressing the unique terrain of the Basra project, Shandong Runhai Steel provided a complete range of ductile iron pipe solutions: Products supplied include: K9 grade ductile iron pipes, T-type/K-type flexible joints, epoxy resin inner lining coating, and external zinc-coated modified asphalt coating.

III. Technical Highlights and Practical Applications

1. Imparting "Toughness" to Metal: A Breakthrough in Spheroidizing Process

2. Combating "Salt and Alkali Corrosion": A Multi-Layer External Protection System

3. "Watertight" Joints: Ensuring Every Drop of Clean Water

IV. Cooperation Value: China's Manufacturing Responsibility for People's Livelihood

1. Benchmarking International High-End Standards: The project passed the stringent acceptance tests of the Japanese JICA regulatory team, proving that Shandong Runhai ductile iron pipes have reached world-class technical standards.

2. Contributing to Social Stability: With the completion of the second phase of the pipeline network, millions of people in Basra have bid farewell to their reliance on water trucks for water supply. Shandong Runhai's products have become tangible evidence of the friendship between the people of the two rivers basin.

3. Deepening Roots in the Middle East Water Market: The successful delivery of this landmark project has laid a solid foundation for Shandong Runhai to further participate in large-scale public utility projects in the Middle East, such as seawater desalination and municipal drainage.

From Chinese-made centrifuge units to the crisscrossing underground pipe network in Basra, Iraq, Shandong Runhai Steel's ductile iron pipes are carrying clear water to every household. This is not only a victory for steel quality, but also a vivid example of Chinese manufacturing serving global livelihoods and promoting sustainable development.
